Afterschool Special

January 20, 2014

We were feeling nostalgic and with everybody going back to school, we decided to do a little "homecoming" of our own. Mind you, this isn't necessarily how we dressed during our high school years; it's simply how we were inspired by visiting our old stomping grounds (lol).

Both of us tended to dress in styles that we've dubbed "feminine tomboy" and we continue to do so today.

A chose a simple outfit, layering a bright plaid shirt over a plain white tank. It makes it easy to get ready in the morning when you're in a rush and trying to make that morning bell.

Fashion tip: A cuffed the sleeves to give it more shape since it wasn't form fitting.

H also incorporated plaid into her outfit, but more as an accessory rather than a focus piece. Her outfit was also simple and because of it, she could throw on other colors without it being too overwhelming.

Alternatively, A layered with an oversized boyfriend jacket instead. It gave her an edgier look, which was gently complemented by her soft curls.

The ripped jeans also give her outfit an edge without being too distracting. (Surprise, those rips are actually sealed underneath).

Similarly, H can change her look, going from edgy to sweet, by simply taking the plaid shirt and hat off.

While having additional colors are nice, sometimes the simplest colors make the most fun outfits. The skirt has this gorgeous, textured design that spoke volumes of its own.

We do love our accessories! A wore what we joked was a "Sailor Moon" necklace; it gave her outfit a quirkiness.

H wore a fortune cookie necklace that she personalized with her favorite quote.

These blue flats are easy to slip on in case of a rush, but also added a pop of color.

H's splash of color came from her Toms wedges. Because her outfit was monochrome, it was easy to swap out the pink oxfords (see: first picture) for these, depending on the look she was aiming for.

Oh and not to mention, the hat was a pretty great find. Like the oxfords, she borrowed this from a friend. It was a great way to "top off" her outfit.

What did you wear in high school and how have you since modified your style?

Give Cold Weather the Boot!

December 16, 2013

The thing about California is that while we're known for our sunny & 70 degree weather, people don't take us seriously when we talk about the cold. It's been really moody here lately and with our venture into the mountains, we knew it was going to be a bit chilly. So we pulled out our coats and boots for our day trip!

H wore a lovely green petticoat from Modcloth; that site has vintage inspired styles that are as cute as a button (sometimes literally!)

A wore a gorgeous Forever 21 coat (H sneakily has the same one; good thing we coordinated ahead of time!). It's a lovely navy blue color that makes it versatile; here she paired it with basic blue jeans, but the simplicity of the coat could also go well with colored or floral pants too. Go wild!

H's coat could also be paired with other colors, but we wanted to emphasize the beautiful green. She wore it with a white knit sweater, which contrasted nicely with the coat.

The oversized sweater is warm, cozy, comfortable...and was found in the men's section. Who says it's only for men?

A always has a thing for "pizazz" and sure enough, her sweater made a subtle but big statement. The sparkles allowed her to show off her shining personality without being too in your face.

Coats, check. Sweaters, check. Boots! H's boots are waterproof leather, making it her go-to for every kind of weather. A's brown leather ones go with practically any weather; she wore them with floral dresses in the summer and now they make the perfect companion for gray days.

You'll also notice A's Katniss-inspired look, complete with the braid (yes, she did that herself!).

Sweater Weather

November 30, 2013

L.A.'s getting a lot colder now (it's even raining!), so we switched out our cardigans for sweaters!

That's Tight!

November 22, 2013

SoCal has finally welcomed in colder weather, so we thought it'd be appropriate to feature tights. They're a versatile addition to any outfit and definitely put the "fun" in functional, keeping you warm and looking good at the same time.

Maxi Dresses

November 16, 2013

The weather in L.A. has been so fickle lately. It's got one foot in the door for fall, and the other won't let go of summer. It's too hot for pants, but too cold for shorts. So we opted for a good medium: the ever so reliable maxi dress.
